    Exceptional

We loved our rooms (we stayed in two) especially #3, the first one. It was well laid out and comfortable. Room 503 was cute but cramped for three people & stairs were not the best thing for someone with knee problems; it was also quite warm until we figured out how to open the skylight. Both rooms were quiet and had comfortable beds. The staff were all unfailingly courteous and helpful, especially as we were stranded in Paris when the airport closed. They helped us book train tickets and were patient with our less than perfect French, even teaching us some words and phrases. We will be recommending this hotel to all our friends, and will definitely return when we visit Paris again. The central location on a quiet side street is a large plus

As stated above, Room 503, though quite charming, can be problematic with the staircase. It wasn't so much that we didn't like it as that a couple of us had problems with the stairs due to mobility issues.

It was quite clean and cozy, and the staff was very helpful, in particular Esketel (sp?).

    Fabulous

The Castex offers basic, comfortable accommodation. It is within walking distance of several Paris attractions. Restaurants/cafes, shops, metro stations, and a self-service laundry are all very near. Air conditioning functioned well ... a nice feature for the occasional hot days. Staff were helpful, if a bit formal and restrained. Good value for the money.

Rooms are small, but this is normal for central Paris. There is not much space to store clothing, books, etc.

From the minute we walked into the hotel, we were charmed. It is so beautifully decorated and furnished. Our room was quiet and delightful with air conditioning, which we found to be rare in Paris. There was even a complimentary bottle of wine. Everything about this hotel was welcoming. It is conveniently situated near the Bastille metro stop.

    Superb

The breakfast was good value for the rate charged if one had to pay compared to other nearby establishments. I had the Rick Steves book and appreciated the inclusion of breakfast at no additional charge. The food was tasty and filling and the variety was good. The only downfall was the eggs which were lackluster but did provide protein. The room was charming.I also stayed for seven nights the week previous to this so had a good exposure to the ambience. The cave where petit dejeuner was served was a nice touch.

Nice hotel, friendly stuff, placed in a great area. Next time I will choose it again.

    Good

First time ever at the River Droit. Although the area lacks the buzz of the Latin Quarter, the hotel is walking distance (20 min) from it; and very close to the underground at Bastille. It was very clean and had a very good breakfast. I would stay there again and recomend it to friends.

    Superb

Hotel de bon confort bien situé avec un accueil tres sympathique, salle de dejeuner agréable avec un petit dejeuner auquel j'aurais bien voulu trouver fruits et jambon blanc mais le reste était parfait

    Exceptional

The hotel is very well-located in the 4th arrondissement, near the Place Bastille and Marais district. Close to restaurants, shops, metro and bus. There is a computer available in the lobby, free of charge. Also, there was a complimentary bottle of wine in the room - a very nice touch. There was a tub as well as shower. Spotlessly clean room. I would stay at this hotel again.

    Fabulous

The staff was very helpfull and the room was comfy. Location was good with the metro near by. The room had safe but I wish it also had perhaps a cold fridge. Overall very nice stay

not really a recommended hotel, the staff are below the level

the service in general is not good at all, heard the same from 2 different guests staying during same period.

The Lobby was well decorated and the owners were very polite and helpful. They efficiently arranged another room for us during our stay because our room facing the traffic was too noisy for us at night. Helped us arranged a taxi to the airport as well. The Hotel is close to Victor Hugo's mansion and Metro Bastille.

This Hotel is probably another Rick Steves victim. I saw the guestbook, almost all have Rick Steves' stamps on their names. Most of the guests were Americans. Both our room's tile flooring were dirty and sticky. Is this an American thing ? They don't remove their shoes when in the room and sleep with their shoes on ? The cleaning lady must have gave up on mopping the floor. Unlike the lobby, furniture in the room looks weary and dated. No, it isn't charming, it just looks boring and tired. The modern elevator in the Hotel seems out of place. There are 3 large garbage bins in the courtyard. It seems thats their permanent resting place. How ugly. The Hotel couldn't accept my credit card, but I used the very same card at another 2 Paris Hotels during the same period with no problems at all. Bring cash with you. The Marais area is to me, over rated and over priced. You would be paying top dollar for a budget motel. Most shops open late and close early. Many just stay closed. It is not true that all paris hotels are rip offs. Just look around and remember there is life outside guidebooks. I recommend the montmartre area. It's much more happening. I sorry but I can't recommend this hotel unless you are American and a die hard Rick Steves fan.

    Very good

Welcoming helpful staff. Good comfortable bed and good linen.

The curtains in the bedroom were very flimsy and the net curtains dirty.

  • 6.6
    Good

The location is the best thing about this hotel. A few minutes walk in one direction is the Place des Voges and the Marais; 5 minutes walk the other direction takes you down to the Seine.

The bedrooms really need to be repainted. Apart from the fact that everything is a depressing brown, the paintwork has been scuffed and marked over the years because the rooms are so small it is impossible not to brush the walls when walking past the bed. I was surprised that this hotel has got high marks from most people but I think it is because of the location and it is quite reasonably priced if two people are sharing a room. For a single traveller, it is expensive and I think you would get better value elsewhere.
